I am very wary of 3d and usually hate the flashy, unsubstantial use of it, but the way they are using 3d cameras to film The Hobbit actually seems pretty awesome.  They are even doing their hand drawn concept art in 3d using red and blue pencils!  Leave it to the nerds to get it right.
